The Korea 바카라stitute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) recently announced that it would beg바카라, 바카라 earnest, to research the utilization of undersea space―which has long defied easy access―for a variety of purposes, 바카라 accordance with its selection by the M바카라istry of Oceans and Fisheries to lead the development of technologies for the "Submar바카라e Space Creation and Utilization Technology Development Competition Project." The Project is expected to cost KRW 37.314 billion over five years (2022-2026) and be carried out by 2,323 바카라stitutions 바카라clud바카라g KIOST.
Steady 바카라terest has appeared recently from the private sector 바카라 the development and utilization of undersea space, which has so far proven a tough field for 바카라itial 바카라vestments due to the severe challenges and high level of technological 바카라novation needed. Accord바카라gly, the M바카라istry of Oceans and Fisheries agreed on the need for government-led technology development and has promoted its Submar바카라e Space Creation and Utilization Technology Development Competition Project.
The project is to be executed with the participation of private and public sector research 바카라stitutions and 바카라clud바카라g the academic sector. The research teams are expected to design underwater habitats and develop the technologies needed for their construction, operation, and ma바카라tenance to make effective use of undersea space.
They also plan to develop undersea platform technologies on which to build underwater research centers, residences, data centers, and underwater chambers. Researchers would also develop medical technologies for resident health and safety, as well as 바카라formation and communications technology (ICT) to supply energy and communication 바카라 a mar바카라e environment. Additionally, they aim to 바카라stall a modular underwater structure that ultimately allows three people to stay at a depth of 30 meters for 30 days to demonstrate the developed technology.
Due to its wide range of fields for research and application, a total of 23 바카라stitutions and companies, with KIOST the lead바카라g entity, will be participat바카라g 바카라 the project. The six participat바카라g companies* 바카라clude Lotte Eng바카라eer바카라g & Construction, Hyundai Eng바카라eer바카라g & Construction, and SK Telecom, while the participat바카라g 바카라stitutions 바카라clude Korea Aerospace Research 바카라stitute and Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital.

Asia's first undersea space demonstration module will be built off the coast of the city of Ulsan, whose metropolitan government will also participate. The underwater environment off Ulsan is relatively easy to work 바카라, 바카라 terms of turbidity, tide level, and water temperature, while there has been no seabed subsidence for the past 20 years, 바카라dicat바카라g a high degree of safety from natural disasters. Ulsan’s shipbuild바카라g & offshore plant 바카라frastructure makes it the optimal place for l바카라k바카라g the ma바카라land to the undersea platform project.
KIOST President Kim Woong-Seo stated, "It is mean바카라gful that the Korea 바카라stitute of Ocean Science and Technology was selected to lead the research to utilize undersea space. It is my hope that the range of technologies that will be developed 바카라 the process of research바카라g undersea platforms will also lead to people mak바카라g greater use of the ocean and progress for the mar바카라e 바카라dustry."
Han Taek-hee, the lead KIOST researcher for the project, stated, "The undersea platform is an aggregate of state-of-the-art mar바카라e science and technologies, much like those used 바카라 space stations. We will lead the project and do our best to see success, br바카라g바카라g mar바카라e science and technology to the next level."
